The other week I had the pleasure of attending a special day at Nicole Bridger where my favourite online beauty shop was hosting their annual pop-up shop for the month of December. I was lucky enough to snatch up one of the last few spots available that offered a free facial and makeup application. The lovely ladies behind my pampering? The super cool and spunky Ashley from One Love Organics and the ever so lovely makeup-guru, Shirley, of W3LL People.
I was so excited to get to take part in this event for multiple reasons. For one, I got to try out all the products I'd had my eye on for months and have them explained to me by company representatives. For two, I got to peruse around my favourite online shop in person (no shipping charges!), and for three, I got to meet the lovely Garcy Fry - cofounder of Eco Diva Beauty who is quite possibly one of the kindest human beings I've ever met.

Facial with Ashley
As soon as I sat down in Ashley's chair, she made me feel comfortable and was able to relate to me on a more personal level. She was genuine, had a great smile, and genuinely seemed interested in meeting me - a great start to my first facial that wasn't in a third world country (the Philippines, if you're wondering). She reassured me that it was totally fine that I had come in with makeup on since I had just finished work and began to ask me about my skin type, common problems I have, and what I want to achieve with my skin.
After explaining to her my issues and my main concerns, she got to work in applying products she thought would work for me and shared with me her own stories of how these have helped her skin.

What Ashley Used
I was thrilled to see what Ashley was using on me because for months I had been so curious about the Vitamin B Facial Cleanser, and the Skin Saviour Balm as new green products I could use to both cleanse and moisturize my skin. They both left my skin feeling clean, fresh, and moisturized without any grease. Needless to say I ended up loving both so much I went home with them that day! Another product I've been keeping my eye on though after this experience is the Brand New Day Scrub - a micro derma scrub that contains organic sweet pea flour and fresh pineapple enzymes and yes, it does smell as delicious as it sounds!
Makeup with Shirley
After my facial with Ashley, I moved onto Shirley's chair where she also began with asking me questions about my makeup routine, what I like to wear, and what a typical makeup day for me is like. I explained to her that I don't really like doing the smokey eye thing and if I am ever to wear eye makeup, it's typically a cat eye with bold brows. When I really like to amp things up, I'll also add in a bold lip. At those two words, you could see the spark light up in Shirley's eyes - I could tell she had something good planned.

What Shirley Used
At the end of my makeup application, my eyes had the perfect subtle cat eye, my eyebrows were bold yet not overpowering, and my lips had great, vibrant red - just the way I like it. Another great trick Shirley taught me was to use a thicker eyeshadow brush to fill in my eyebrows. Who would have thought? After all these years of hearing you should use an angled brush specifically meant for eyebrows, here was this makeup guru telling me it was just easier and faster to use a thicker one. Makes total sense, right?
At this point I was super excited to start perusing through all the makeup on the table and find the perfect "throw in your bag, just in case" item. What I found was perfect - the Nudist Colorbalm stick in #2. In the tube, it is a dark, mysterious, potentially scary for some lip colour but when you apply it, it's the perfect sheer colour that's great to throw on if you have an impromptu dinner or a night out with girlfriends. It has definitely won me over and earned a permanent spot in my purse.

All in all, my experience at Nicole Bridger was great. The pop-up shop was a lot of fun, I learned a few things about my skin and how to apply makeup, I met some wonderful women, and I went home with some great additions to my beauty arsenal. If you're in Vancouver and looking for a place to shop for the Eco Diva in your life, be sure to head over to Nicole Bridger and check it out. The pop-up store will be there through to this Sunday the 21st!
