Ingredients
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup quick oats
- 2 tablespoons shredded coconut (mine was toasted for extra flavour)
- 1 medium banana
- Chia seeds
- Water
- Almond milk (optional)
Oatmeal Benefits - Oatmeal is a great food to start your day with as it keeps you feeling fuller, for longer, as compared to toast, or cereal. It's also full of fibre, low in fat, and has a low glycemic index so you won't experience the sugar crash you might when you start your day with a piece of toast and jam and a cup of coffee.
Coconut Benefits - We've all heart about the benefits of coconut oil over the past couple of years, but shredded coconut is also a nutrient rich food that you should include in your diet. Shredded coconut contains protein, fibre, iron, and zinc. All essential nutrients to keep our muscles strong, keep our bowels moving, keeping us energized, as well as supporting immune system function.
Banana Benefits - Often the first thing people think about when you think about banana health benefits is the amount of potassium in them. Although this is true (and great, as it supports cardiovascular health), bananas also contain nutrients to support digestive health in helping us better absorb calcium (orthopaedic benefits!). Bananas also contain tryptophan, serotonin, and norepinephrine, all of which help us to stabilize our moods and energy levels.
Chia Seed Benefits - Chia seeds alone are a superfood that hold a long list of benefits. Some of these nutrients include healthy fats (including Omega-3s) for brain and skin health, calcium for healthy bones and teeth, protein for muscle building and maintenance, fibre for digestive health, tryptophan for appetite, sleep, and mood stabilization, as well as the ability to help us regular our blood sugar therefore preventing the sugar spikes and lows throughout the day.
