A few months ago, I had my first experience with Eco Diva Beauty. I spent hours upon hours scouring their website and trying to curate my list of "To Buy" items. I tried to be smart with it, considering it was my first time buying with this company and wanted to make sure that I spent the money on smart, useful products I would be able to use daily.
So, after spending hours online reading reviews, researching these green, eco-friendly brands, I decided the smartest way to spend my money would be to buy deodorant, lip balm, and an every day moisturizing lip tint. Smart, right?
Based on the reviews and my own curiosity, I decided to go with Schmidt's natural deodorant. Schmidt's is an all-natural, vegan, cruelty-free brand that is based out of Portland, OR. The deodorants come in varying scents from lavender + sage, cedarwood + juniper, bergamot + lime, ylang ylang + calendula, to unscented. I couldn't decide which ones I wanted so I figured I would pick three. I chose ylang ylang + calendula (based on rave reviews I found online), cedarwood + juniper (sounded too cozy to resist), and unscented (based on my work in the hospital).
When the deodorants arrived I was so excited to try them out. I decided to try out the ylang ylang + calendula first. My first thoughts when opening the little glass pot included "well, this will be interesting to apply" and "I hope this doesn't small as strong on as it does in the jar." Very quickly, these worries melted away.

My first thoughts when opening the little glass pot included "well, this will be interesting to apply" and "I hope this doesn't small as strong on as it does in the jar." Very quickly, these worries melted away.
To apply the deodorant, I figured the easiest way was to take the little spatula that comes in the pot (how cute!) to scrape out a pea sized amount and put it on one of my fingers. I then smeared this onto my skin and began to rub it in. With the warmth of my skin, the product began to melt and became easier and easier to spread around, ensuring even application.
My worries about the scent were quickly nullified as well as it fades into a nice, subtle lingering scent. Nothing too strong or overpowering. I have to say though, the ylang ylang + calendula wasn't my favourite scent of the three that I purchased. Scent-wise, the cedarwood + juniper won my heart as it reminded me of fall with crunchy leaves, cold but sunny days, and being outdoors. Dave even loved the smell of this one as it's more masculine and I'm pretty sure it reminded him of scotch-drinking season while sitting by the fire in a cozy sweater.
A few months later (even though I still had some left - I bought three for God's sake), my curiosity got the better of me. I found out that the Green's Organic & Natural market not too far from my house sold Schmidt's too! I couldn't help but to go in and pick up the bergamot + lime - the next scent on my "to try" list. This one turned out to be my absolute favourite. It was both citrusy and fresh, with a subtle, feminine feel to it. The lime wasn't too overpowering (which I often worry about with anything lime-scented) and the bergamot was perfectly balanced with it so that I didn't smell like a cup of Earl Grey tea.
Now, I'm sure you're wondering "but does this stuff really work?" The answer to that is YES! I have been wearing this stuff for months now, using different scents based on how I'm feeling that day and I have to say, there hasn't been one day where I have this stuff on and think to myself "I've gotta get home and shower before someone can smell me." I've worn this for short days going out to get coffee or walking the dog, to long 12 hour days at the hospital and it has held up every time.
I have yet to try out the lavender + sage one, which I'm hoping won't make me smell like an old lady, but I've promised myself I'll get through the two pots I still have in my bathroom first. Overall, I love Schmidt's and doubt I'll ever return to drug store brands again. Try them out if you haven't and I guarantee you'll feel the same!
