Last night Dave attended a small birthday shindig (that I regrettably couldn't attend) hosted by a couple friends of ours who are probably the most health conscious, yet amazing chefs I have ever met. Just listening to the menu put on by Anne and Charles which included four different types of drool-worthy homemade pizza (yeast-free, mind you!) and the quinoa chocolate avocado cake that followed was enough to make me wish I had gone over to their place instead.
Luckily for me, Anne and Charles sent Dave home with some of the quinoa chocolate cake which Dave began raving about as soon as I hopped in the car. Naturally, I couldn't wait to try it so as soon as I walked in the door I dug into it which immediately prompted my reaction of "Holy shit! This is so good!" while Dave nodded as if to say "Yeah, I told you!" Needless to say, I'll be needing the recipe.
This morning there was one piece of cake left, and seeing as I ate two of the three last night (don't judge), I figured I better leave it for Dave instead. I decided to try making something of my own that would be a good alternative, yet satisfy the elements of the cake. So, I made a smoothie! A chocolate-avocado-banana smoothie to be exact and it turned out great.

Ingredients
Notes
- 1 avocado
- 2 frozen bananas
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1 tablespoon almond butter
- 2 tablespoons cocoa
- 2 cups unsweetened almond milk
Notes
- I always used to have trouble with peeling frozen bananas. I've found the easiest way now is to leave the banana to thaw on the counter for a few minutes, and then using a paring knife to peel/scrape the skin away.
- It's best to pour your liquid in at the end when making smoothies for better blending.
